Taking reflection further

There are some reflection tools which can be helpful for self-reflection, self-assessment or documentation of language repertoires, language-learning processes and plurilingual competences. Making use of these tools can contribute to improving language and cultural awareness. The tools are frequently used by foreign language teachers and, because collaboration between of language teachers and teachers of other subjects is an important issue, they could be of interest to teachers of the language of schooling as well

What you will learn in this section

The aims of this section are to:

  • get familiar with existing tools for assessing, documenting, reflecting and supporting plurilingual repertoires and competencies;
  • get to know the results of some ECML projects especially relevant for promoting plurilingual and inclusive education.

Using reflection instruments

There are some helpful tools for language teachers with regard to assessment, documentation and reflection on language learning processes. Here is a list of the tools:

Have a closer look at one of these tools. Choose one, discuss the following tasks and prepare a short presentation:

  • How does the tool help you reflect on your attitudes towards languages and language learning, and your role as a teacher of the language of schooling?
  • How can you make use of the tool in the classroom?

 

Using project results for reflection

Have a look at a list with some project results. Choose one or two projects that might be interesting for you and reflect on their relevance to your work.

  • How do they support your work as a teacher of the language of schooling?
  • Why are they useful for the promotion of plurilingual competences in the context of the subject you are teaching?
