Context

The work of the current project builds especially on the work done in MARILLE. The framework developed in the Marille project need to be tested for appropriateness in different national contexts. This project also aims to extend the approach launched in Marille to inclusive and plurilingual teacher education. Furthermore, the project has connections to several other ECML projects in earlier medium term phase. E.g. JaLing (mainly focused on primary school), Tertiary Language Learning (mainly looking at foreign language classrooms), LEA (geared towards teacher education), VALEUR (documenting European plurilingualism with special regard to community languages) and CARAP (A Framework of Reference for Pluralistic Approaches).

This project is closely related also to the LE project of the Council of Europe which deals with languages of education in schools and the first languages of the majority of learners. The results of the large LE project are of a great interest for the current project, as we are working on one aspect of the LE project and can benefit from the approach and concepts developed there.
